Mary Bartel

Mary has been a mind-body professional for over 25 years, sharing the healing and transformative power of yoga and mindful movement. Her personal healing journey began in 1998, when chronic neck and back pain became debilitating and ultimately led her to yoga as a pathway toward restoration.

Mary began teaching Kripalu Yoga in 2000 and, in 2005, founded Inner Quest Yoga & Wellness Center in Saranac Lake, New York. Since then, she has devoted herself full-time to the study and practice of yoga therapy, meditation, and energy-based disciplines—supporting others in cultivating greater ease, vitality, and well-being in their lives.

Mary holds professional-level yoga teacher certification and has completed extensive training across multiple yoga traditions. For more than two decades, her continuing education has focused primarily on yoga therapy and meditation. Two of her most influential teachers have been Mukunda Stiles, founder of Structural Yoga Therapy, and Richard M. Miller, PhD, founder of iRest Yoga Nidra Meditation.

Under the guidance of Mukunda Stiles, Mary was certified as a Structural Yoga™ Therapist and Instructor. This work deepened her understanding that the heart of yoga is not performance, but adaptation—meeting each individual where they are through mindful, functional, and practical application of yoga techniques and lifestyle principles. This personalized approach reflects the yogic aim of balance, steadiness, and ease of being, which she brings into her work with clients.

Mary also received the highest level of certification as an iRest Teacher under Richard M. Miller, PhD. Through his teachings, she came to embody the understanding that yoga is the lived experience of non-separation—the recognition that all of life is interconnected and of the same essence. This awareness is not merely philosophical, but something felt and known directly in the body, shaping the depth, presence, and care she brings to her teaching and healing work.

Over time, Mary expanded her teaching to include Taoist Yoga, Qigong, and Tai Chi, drawn to their emphasis on energy cultivation, harmony with the laws of nature, and symbolic movement that supports vitality, longevity, and resilience. These influences continue to inform and enrich her integrative, whole-person approach to yoga therapy and mindful movement. In 2025, Mary became certified through Begin With Breath Tai Chi under the guidance of Adam Potts.
